18-Year-Old Mother Completes BECE Exams With Her 5-Month-Old Baby

Beatrice Kenyo, a mother of a five-month-old child, is 18 years old and has recently graduated from Junior High School (JHS).
She completed her junior high school education on October 20th, 2022, by taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Beatrice lives in the Akwatiakwaso Community of Abenta Village in Adawso, a town in the Eastern Region where adolescent pregnancy is common.

That is the situation in which Beatrice Kenyo found herself. She hoped that by dating someone in his twenties, she would gain acceptance from her peers.

Her mother’s small sum of money for tuition was insufficient, so she knew she needed to find a lover.

Beatrice revealed the information in question in an exclusive interview with Emelia Naa Ayeley Aryee, a Ghanaian journalist, gender advocate, and advocate for women and children.

Beatrice completed junior high school and avoided what appears to be a blight in her community: adolescent girls who become pregnant are frequently married off to younger men, effectively ending their education.

What comes after the BECE?

Because Beatrice is a typical student, she expects to score a 21 on the BECE. She intends to attend nursing school after graduating from high school.

Mampong Presec, Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, Larteh Presec, Benkum Senior High School, Adonten Senior High School, and Okuapeman Senior High School were Beatrice’s top six school choices.

She also begged well-meaning Ghanaians, non-governmental organizations, and other civil society organizations to assist her in achieving her goal of becoming a medical doctor.
