The National Service Scheme (NSS) Ashanti Regional Director is accused of disrespecting a nurse on duty at Manhyia Hospital for correcting his daughter’s incorrect prescription.
Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah is said to have stormed into the hospital’s surgical ward, where his daughter is currently serving as a house officer, and verbally abused and threatened the nurse.
Eyewitnesses claim that the medical officer gave the wrong dosage to a two-year-old convulsion patient.
When the nurse noticed the medical error, she summoned the young doctor to correct the erroneous medication.
According to sources, the house officer took offense and reported the incident to her father, who later visited the hospital to angrily insult the nurse.
The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association has since issued a statement demanding that the NSS Ashanti Regional boss be fired immediately for his misbehavior.
“The Public Service Commission and, for that matter, the government should immediately fire the said Regional Director because he is unfit for the director position he holds in the public sector.”
“He had no right to enter Manhyia hospital and verbally abuse and threaten the nurse in question, who was on duty at the time,” according to the statement.
If Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah is not fired within the next 72 hours, the nurses have threatened to call on their facility members to boycott their duties.
