One of the few trophies Lionel Messi has yet to win in his illustrious career is the FIFA World Cup.
The 35-year-old has previously admitted that time is running out for him to win the World Cup with Argentina, which he hopes to do at this year’s edition in Qatar.
The Albiceleste have found form at an opportune time and are considered a contender for this year’s showpiece in Qatar, having narrowly missed out on the 2014 edition, losing to Germany in the finals in Brazil.
As has been customary since his debut in 2006, the PSG star will also debut new boots for the 2022 World Cup.
While Messi used to wear Nike boots, he has only ever worn adidas boots on the senior World Cup stage, and this year is no exception.
Adidas ‘X Speedportal Leyenda’ Messi World Cup boots
Messi’s new adidas boots will give him a literal golden touch in Qatar.
The gold-colored ‘X Speedportal Leyenda’ was released to commemorate Messi’s fifth World Cup appearance and was inspired by elements of the shoes he wore on his tournament debut in 2006.
The name ‘Leyenda’ is Spanish for ‘legend,’ and it’s a fitting tribute to the 35-year-old who has won a record seven Ballon d’Ors.
The iconic shoes are built for speed and agility, with a carbon-fibre insert that provides a large spring without adding weight.
What is the price of Messi’s adidas World Cup boots?
Lionel Messi’s Adidas World Cup boots cost N270,155 ($355). The boots are currently on the market for a retail price, and if Messi wins the tournament, the boots’ value will likely skyrocket as they become a possible collector’s item.
The boot is available for purchase and viewing on adidas’ official website.
Messi will wear the boots for the first time in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, November 22, 2022.
