On a grim day in Zambia, a man named Victor Sungababwa, fueled by anger, brought a shocking end to his marriage of over eight years. This horrifying event unfolded when Victor, in a fit of rage, fatally attacked his estranged wife with an axe. This act of violence took place in the peaceful setting of Siamalele village in Chief Siachitema’s jurisdiction in the Kalomo District.
The incident was reported by Esen Kanimba, a dedicated member of the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU). He made an urgent call to the authorities, detailing the horrifying act committed by Victor Sungababwa, a 43-year-old resident of Siakacheka Village under Chief Macha in the Choma region.
Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, confirmed the incident in a public statement on Monday, August 28, 2023. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Atrina Munsaka, tragically lost her life on the spot. She was attacked by her husband as she was serving him with divorce papers, a grim end to their marital dispute.
In the immediate aftermath of the fatal attack, the suspect, Victor Sungababwa, attempted to end his own life by ingesting a poisonous substance. He was found and promptly taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. He remains under the watchful eye of the police, ensuring he faces the consequences of his actions.
According to Hamoonga’s account, this dreadful event took place in the early hours of Sunday, August 27, specifically between 05:00 and 06:45. The location was pinpointed to Mayobo’s Siakaceka village, situated in Chief Macha’s jurisdiction within the Choma district.
“The deceased was a second wife to the accused. They got married in 2013 but had been having matrimonial disputes since 2015,” said Mr. Hamoonga.
“On August 26, 2023, the deceased attempted to serve summons to the accused, but he refused. On August 27,2023, around 05:00 hours, the accused called the reporter to go and witness the serving of the summons,” the police spokesperson said.
“During the process of the deceased serving the summons, the accused went inside the house and came back with an axe which he was hiding on his back and the moment he reached where the deceased was he produced it and hacked the deceased in the head causing her to sustain a very deep cut in the head and she died instantly,”
The suspect attempted Suicide by drinking a chemical but he received help. He has since been admitted to the chroma hospital and under police supervision.
