Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently issued a directive to remove all promotional materials of Alan Kyerematen from party offices in the Ashanti Region. This action followed Alan’s decision to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, which led to his exit from the NPP.
However, in a surprising twist, Alan Kyerematen, who has now established his own political party, countered Chairman Wontumi’s directives. He revealed, in his first interview since his declaration, that he was actually the one who introduced Wontumi to the NPP.
Alan recalled an encounter around 2005 when Chairman Wontumi, a small businessman at that time, approached him with admiration for his political conduct. Wontumi, who had previously sworn off politics in Ghana, was inspired by Alan’s demeanor and expressed a desire to follow in his footsteps.
Further adding to the narrative, Alan stated that Wontumi once met him in Kumasi, sharing his political aspirations. Recognizing his potential, Alan guided Wontumi to the Bosomtwe constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Leveraging his significant influence in the party, Alan successfully campaigned for Wontumi to be appointed as their Chairman, marking a key milestone in Wontumi’s political journey.
