Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Assin Central and potential flag bearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated plans to create a special fund to build cutting-edge studios throughout the country if elected president of Ghana. This is in keeping with his vision to support the creative industry.
He emphasized the urgent need to invest in the creative arts sector in order to enable artists and producers to develop top-notch music videos and cinematic projects in light of the lack of high-quality studio facilities in the nation.
On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the well-known businessman and politician discussed his plans for Ghana’s entertainment sector with Bola Ray of Starr FM. One of those plans involved the construction of a state-of-the-art studio.
“Let me tell you something, we need to build fantastic studios over here. What I don’t like is why is it that any good music or show, they have to go and do it in Dubai, South Africa. We are going to do it here under my presidency. Nice studios. Let others also come here; we are human beings,” Agyapong passionately articulated.
He emphasized the need to foster an environment that allows Ghanaian creatives to flourish and take great satisfaction in their work.
“When you enter the studio, like what you’ve done, you should be proud of it and you can change it for the next artiste. So we need beautiful studios over here. We have to create a fund for them [the creative arts industry], because to produce a good movie or song, you need a lot of money,” he added.
At the next NPP Super Delegates Conference on Saturday, November 4, Kennedy Agyapong will face stiff opposition from people like Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Afriyie Akoto, and former lawmaker Francis Addai Nimo.
