Miss Elsie, the estranged wife of Nigerian comedian Basketmouth, quietly suggested in an old video that the love in their marriage had vanished, which may have contributed to their eventual divorce.
The comedian formally announced the dissolution of their marriage on his Instagram account on Thursday.
“As much as it pains me to bring my personal life into the public eye, this is an unavoidable situation. My wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after much deliberation.
“As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance, and support they need. We humbly ask that you respect our privacy as we navigate through these times. Thank you,” his post reads
Netizens who were left wondering what happened to the couple dug up an old video in which Mrs. Okpocha advised women not to marry solely for love.
Because marriage is a lifelong commitment, she counseled unmarried women to select their partners wisely.
“Before you marry anybody, make sure you use your head, not your heart; love is important in marriage but not the thing that should guide you because love fades.
“It’s marriage, not a vacation, it’s a lifetime commitment. Nobody goes into marriage hoping to get a divorce. Marry someone that has sense; that is the most important thing in marriage in order to make the marriage work,” she said in the tape.
