Money in your MoMo will be refunded if you provide valid ID – Ursula to Ghanaians with deactivated SIMs

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the minister of communications and digitalization, has said that her department is aware of the unrest among Ghanaians whose SIM cards have been revoked.

All of the individuals whose numbers could not be activated using their Ghana Cards at the conclusion of the SIM Card re-registration procedure on May 31 had their numbers canceled.

This has angered people, especially those whose money was frozen on Mobile Money (MoMo) accounts.

On June 8, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful assured lawmakers during a floor speech that funds in MoMo accounts are not misplaced.

She said that impacted subscribers who can provide a valid ID and follow the necessary procedures can get their money back.

“We are also aware of the challenges users have when trying to access the money in their mobile money wallets.

“These subscribers will not be able to transact money mobile-related activities, however, we are working with the Bank of Ghana to ensure that these subscribers are able to retrieve funds upon the presentation of a valid ID and going through the required processes,” Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said.

The National Identification Authority (NIA) is still encouraged to help individuals obtain their Ghana cards so they may re-register their SIM Cards, the Minister of Communications and Digitalization further informed.
