President Akufo-Addo has shared some exciting news about the National Service Scheme (NSS). He revealed that the government is preparing a draft policy to elevate the NSS to an Authority.
This move is designed to broaden the scope of the NSS and adapt it to global trends.

The upcoming transformation was announced during the NSS’s 50th anniversary celebration in Accra. The theme of the celebration is “NSS at 50: Repositioning the Scheme for a Sustainable National Development.” Activities for the event include lectures, a funding summit, blood donation, tree-planting, and the launch of the Golden Jubilee Magazine.
The President emphasized the importance of the NSS in Ghana’s growth. He believes that it instills a sense of patriotism, nationalism, volunteerism, and discipline in the youth. He also praised the NSS Executive-Director, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, for his visionary leadership.
The President also shared that since 2017, about 800,000 Service persons have been deployed to support the mainstream workforce. He encouraged the leadership of the NSS to focus on areas such as health, agriculture, Information, Communication and Technology, and other technical areas relevant to the nation’s development.
The transformation will be made official through the enactment of a law. This law will support a model called “deployment for employment,” which is designed to address the employment needs of fresh graduates by enhancing their training and skills development.
The President assured that the Government would provide the necessary support for the Scheme’s sustainable growth.
