‘Pray For The King’ – Kylian Mbappe And England Captain Harry Kane Pay Tribute To ‘Inspiration’ Pele

Sick Pele

Pele’s ailing health has prompted an outpouring of support from major figures in modern football, who have reflected on the significance of the 82-year-old Brazilian legend.

Pele confirmed last year that he had colon cancer and had surgery, and both PSG and France striker Kylian Mbappe, as well as Tottenham and England’s Harry Kane, were quick to pay tribute.

Pele, the Brazilian football legend, is battling cancer in hospital and has received messages of support from the football world.

The 82-year-old, widely regarded as the greatest player of all time alongside Diego Maradona, was admitted to hospital in Sao Paulo on Tuesday.

It was described as a routine visit at the time, but according to a Brazilian report, he was not responding to chemotherapy treatment for colon cancer.

Pele was later admitted to the hospital for a “reassessment of chemotherapy therapy,” and a medical report stated that he “is still undergoing treatment” and “remains in a stable condition.”

Pele, who won three World Cups, had a colon tumor removed in September 2021 and was diagnosed with a respiratory infection this week.

“Pray for the King,” France and Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe tweeted.

“We are very sad to hear news of him being ill, but we wish him well, not just me, but the entire England set-up,” England captain Harry Kane said. He’s an inspiration and a wonderful person.”

Jurgen Klinsmann, a former Germany forward, told the BBC: “Pele is a truly wonderful person.

The world’s greatest football personality. We can only pray and hope for the best, but this is heartbreaking news.”

Buildings in Qatar, which is hosting the 2022 World Cup, were lit up with a “Get well soon” message for Pele.

Santos, Pele’s only Brazilian club during his career, tweeted, “It’s the whole world wishing you well, King Pele.”

Pele had previously expressed gratitude to fans for their messages, writing on Instagram, “It’s always nice to receive positive messages like this.” Thank you to Qatar for this honor, and to everyone who sends me positive vibes.”

Pele holds the Brazilian national team goal scoring record, with 77 goals in 92 appearances.

He played for Santos from 1956 to 1974, then for the New York Cosmos from 1975 to 1977.

He scored 643 goals in 659 official appearances for his Brazilian team, while he netted 66 times in 107 games for the United States.

He won six Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A titles, ten Paulista league titles, and the Copa Libertadores tournament twice in addition to his goals for Brazil.
